Question: What is Tagores concept of Ideal state?
Introduction
Rabindranath Tagore (1861 – 1941) is one of the leading poets of Bangla literature. He has got Nobel Prize in 1913 specially for ”Gitanjali” published in 1912 (English version). ”Where the Mind is Without Fear” or ”Gitanjali-35” discusses the concept of an ideal state.
Tagore’s concept of ideal state
In the poem, Tagore tries to give a concept of an ideal state. After scanning the poem, we get sundry features of an ideal state. which are given below:
- There will no fear in mind and its citizen’s heads will high. Here, he wants its citizen’s honest personality.
- There will freedom of speech.
- The big state will be one. There will be no fragments of nation and area in the state.
- Its citizens will speak truth from the core of heart.
- Their diligent efforts are made to attain the best; no effort is spare to attain perfection.
- These people will be guided by reason and not by customs and prejudices.
- The countrymen will be led forward by God. That means they will get the help of God.
Conclusion
To sum up, Rabindranath Tagore is seen here highly imaginative. If we get this type of state, our life will be a Heavenly life.
