Marlin is a kind of large long-nosed marine fish, characterized by an elongated body, a long dorsal fin, and a rounded spear extending from the snout.
In the novella The Old Man and The Sea, Santiago kills a great Marlin fish. Santiago was across the Sea feeling himself alone. But after sometimes he sees a flight of wild ducks. Then he realizes that no one is alone in the heart of the sea. Then he sees the Marlin emerging from the water. It was looking bright in the sun. The Marlin emerges from the water at its full length. The Marlin is two feet longer than the old man’s boat.

Suddenly the Marlin comes close to his boat. As the marlin comes in closer, Santiago takes out his harpoon. He tries several times to harpoon the marlin, but misses, growing weaker and weaker. With all his great experience and strength, he struggles with the fish for three days, admiring its strength, dignity, and faithfulness to its identity. its destiny is as true as Santiago’s as a fisherman.
Finally, Santiago draws all his strength, pain, and pride together and plunges the harpoon one last time, driving it into the marlin’s heart. He finally reels the marlin in and lashes it to his boat. He sets sail for home, thinking of the high price the fish will bring him at the market and how many people he will feed.
