The incident of Tom’s imprisonment: Tom Jones visited Mrs. Fitzpatrick at her home. On leaving the house, he met Mr. Fitzpatrick, who had come at the inquest of his wife. He suspected that Tom had had an affair with his wife. Mr. Fitzpatrick provoked Tom into a duel. Mr. Fitzpatrick was seriously wounded in the duel with Tom. As a result, Tom was arrested and imprisoned.
