Othello as a love story

Othello is the best example of a domestic tragedy based on a love story. It is written by William Shakespeare (1564-1616). It deals with the story of a man who loves his beloved excessively but not wisely.

Othello is a tragedy in which the love story of Othello and Desdemona has well discussed. In this story, we find that though Othello loves Desdemona very passionately he is unable to love her wisely because he killed his beloved wife being internally blind. The story of the tragedy begins with the conversation between Iago and Roderigo about Roderigo’s’ desire to love Desdemona.

Besides, we know the love story of Desdemona to Othello at the very outset of the play. Here we can notice that Desdemona after hearing Othello’s life story and his adventurous journey exposed her love to Othello without proper investigation about him. Here we can see that Desdemona loves Othello excessively but not wisely.

On the other hand, Othello, the Moor of Venice has a passionate love for Desdemona, a girl of exceptional beauty and grace but he fails to continue his love at all. He is easily deceived by Iago and failed to understand the difference between the appearance and reality of Iago which brings his tragic end.

Mutual understanding between husband and wife is an essential part of a happy conjugal life that was totally absent in the play Othello. As a part of Othello’s wise less love, we can mention the story of Iago’s conspiracy he creates numerous traps to deceive  Othello. He is able to convince Othello that his wife, Desdemona, is cheating on him and making a love affair with General Cassio. Iago seems that it is not difficult for him to make a conspiracy against Othello because he trusts him so much. Iago reveals to Othello that Desdemona has given Cassio his handkerchief. He describes I don’t know, but such a handkerchief, I’m sure it’s your wife’s handkerchief that you gave her. Today I saw Cassio wiping his beard with it.  hearing Othello naturally feels angry about Desdemona.  Iago says:

I know not that, but such a handkerchief I am sure it was your wifes did I today See Cassio wipe his beard with.

This intrigue leads to a major complexity in the marriage of Othello and Desdemona and finally, Othello killed Desdemona by strangulation without any investigation. As Othello has not had proper knowledge about the real nature of Desdemona so he is easily persuaded by villain Iago and killed his beloved wife Desdemona. But when he comes to know that Desdemona was innocent. He feels very sad and suicides with his own sword.

More Notes: Suggestions

Thus, an innocent beloved is killed by her lover. The incident proved that Othello is the tale of a man who loved his beloved excessively but not wisely. Because if Othello would investigate the real incidents of his wife or would ask his wife what is the real story perhaps a tragic end did not come to their conjugal life rather, their married life could be ideal for all lovers in the world.
