The boys hunt a pig and the head of the pig is hung on a stick. They gift the head of the pig to the beast. They are afraid of the beast. They thought to please the beast by offering the head of the pig. Here William Golding (1911-1993) gives the head the title “Lord of the Flies”. Literally, this title indicates Beelzebub. He is a devil. His name is found in the Bible.

In the novel ‘Lord of the Flies,’ the head of the pig does not represent so much evil or sin. The flies that drone over the guts of the pig represents ancient urges. They were dominating the boys. Simon believes that the pig’s head speaks to him, calling him a silly little boy. The Lord of the Flies tells Simon that he’d better run off and play with the others, who think that he is crazy. Simon relates that,
“The beast is actually the inherent evil inside each one of them”.
Here, Golding reveals that the speech of the lord of the flies might be Simon’s imagination. However, the lord of the flies tells the naked truth about reality. He unlocks that we gave various names to the devil. We call it sin, violence, and brutality. But evil actually exists inside man’s heart. It is an important part of the human condition. The conversation between the Lord of the flies and Simon indicates the conflict between good and evil that occurs in man’s heart.
