How does Willy achieve tragic Victory?
Introduction
Death of Salesman (1949) is a Tragic Victory Drama which is written by Arthur Miller, .‘Tragic Victory’ refers to the hero’s talking about his own life or choosing deliberately to die at hands of others. Tragic Victory does not mean that the death of the hero makes the audience feel a certain joy when he sacrifices his life for a “cause” and unhappy when he dies without any cause. Man’s death is a terrifying thing that does not make anybody happy. But when the death of a hero appears to do an assertion of bravery and serves to separate the death of a man from the death of animals, he achieves ‘Tragic Victory’.

Description
Willy Loman is the tragic hero of the Drama ‘Death of a Salesman’. Willy’s favorite Son is Biff. Willy has shown the American dream to his elder son Biff. But he is now a failure to fulfill the American dream. Willy Loman wants to establish his Sons by the business. To run a business, a huge amount of money is needed but his sons do not have such amount of money so that they can start the journey to persuade the American Dream. For this reason, Willy decides to sacrifice his life because, after his death, his family will be given 20000 dollars by the insurance company. From this point of view, we can say that Willy is wise and has been able to get the designation of business founder and is a winner of tragic victory. Here we can cite a quotation:
“After all the highways, and the trains, and the appointments, and the years, you end up worth more dead than alive.”
Conclusion
Finally, we can say that Willy has got a victory through his death. And it will not be correct to say that Willy has committed suicide but rather we should call it a sacrifice. But this type of sacrifice is unexpected.
